"Our Father who is Heaven"
                         - Jesus   (Matthew 6:9)

When we say, "Our Father," we're acknowledging that we belong to God's family. Being a member of God's family means we're entitled to all the rights and privileges that go with it.

Have you discovered what they are yet?  "Daddy" is one of the most important words we learn to say because intimacy with our father helps us understand our identity. It is important for us to know who our father is and how  he feels about us.

If you had an abusive father or an absentee dad, it'll take you a while to believe and act on the fact that God as your heavenly Father is not like that. He is the Dad who loves you and that you can come to any time day or night knowing He'll be there for you. When you finally accept that God is the Father you always wanted, then prayer becomes simply talking to your Dad.

If God is our loving Father, why don't we spend more time with Him?

One reason is that while His love draws us, His holiness intimidates us.  When Isaiah saw the Lord in the Temple, he cried, "Woe is me!" (Isaiah 6:5).  Being in our Father's presence forces us to look more closely at ourselves to see how strong or weak the family resemblance is. That's why David said, "The Lord is like a Father to His children, tender and compassionate . . . for He understands how weak we are" (Psalm 103:13 - 14 NLT).

All of us long to be understood. It's exhausting to be with people who audit our every move and constantly demand that we qualify every statement. But our Father is not like that. We don't have to try to get God to understand us. He knows what both our speech and our silence suggest, so sometimes the best thing to do is just crawl up into His lap, look into His face and just say -

"Our Father who is in heaven!"

I, wisdom, live together with prudence."     Proverbs 8:12

No matter how great our cause, when we push ourselves beyond the limits designed into us by God, we suffer exactly the same results as those who burn out in any other pursuit. As a work-a-holic I've had to learn how to make stress work for me instead of against me.

Here are a few insights I've gained along the way:

* 1. If you grew up in a stress-filled environment, you may not even know how to handle life any other way.

* 2. Acknowledge that stress is an emotional adrenaline to you - that's why you keep creating it.

* 3. When you sit in a chair and hear the legs crack, common sense tells you that if you don't take your weight off it you are going to end
up on the floor. Use your common sense to heed the telltale signs of your health cracking and take the stress off before your health breaks or you'll greatly diminish what you can do for God or anybody else.

* 4. Learn prudence. The word prudence just means "careful management." The prudent person becomes a better manager of their time, their energy and their God-given gifts.

* 5. Recognize your "stressors." (I know a lot of mine! Do you know what yours are?) Change the ones you can and start accepting the
ones you can't change - such as other people! You must learn to adapt to any "stressor" that can't be changed so that the stress they induce motivates you instead of pressuring you or burying you
(Philippians 4:11-13).

* 6. Most importantly, spend more time with the One Who said,"Come
unto Me all you who . . . are over-burdened and I will . . . [relieve and refresh your souls]" (Matthew 11:28 amp).

That's my prudent advice today
